Inspiring as usual, Lynette. A question for your future musings: how do you see AI influencing the evolution of interface?

So far we've been living in an app world. But new comers like Rabbit R1 come with a device designed for the their AI system. It's clearly just a first iteration, but it makes sense to foresee an evolution of connected devices, not just systems. What do you think?

Oh my, how did I miss this!!! I'm so sorry for the delay. Thank you for the question... I think there's fodder here for multiple posts! I have added it to the list of ideas, but in the meantime here's a dumping of some initial thoughts:

Re: Evolution of interfaces

1/ Just like touchscreens and “point&click” dynamics became ubiquitous; so will AI-fuelled ‘natural language’ interfaces.

2/ People’s expectations of what's reasonable to expect will change, as the economics and technical possibilities shift. Personalisation could become more meaningful, but also more taken for granted. There will be less tolerance for delays in response.

3/ I suspect the impact of AI on UX and CX is going to be one of the earliest and most vivid examples of transformation, at least from the perspective of laypeople

Re: Evolution of connected devices

4/ Internet of things will get smarter and turbocharged

5/ We'll expect more morphing and fluidity in the tasks devices perform at different times.

6/ I’m not sure about the longevity of the walled garden style of a device tied to a custom AI model simply because things seem to be evolving so fast that I'd worry it's a recipe for lock-in to an outdated service. But it is in keeping with the “buy device AND then pay hefty monthly subscription to keep using” model that seems to have become a thing….

7/ Finally, a bit more 'out there' - as AI spreads through lots of different lenses, I wonder if we will see the emergence of different kinds of swarm or collective intelligence? It feels like there’s a nugget of an idea there but I haven’t fully grokked it yet…
